Arts on Cape Cod

Amy Kinney was born on Cape Cod but spent much of her life living in various parts of MA and CT. She eventually returned to the Cape, seeking the beauty and tranquility of “home.” Art has always been a constant in her life, even as a little girl. After graduating from Smith College with a BA in Mathematics, Amy spent 6 years teaching high school Algebra and Geometry. As a teacher, her creativity was focused on her classroom and both her art and personal health became a second priority to her students. Then after several hospitalizations, Amy had to leave teaching to seek treatment for depression, anorexia and an anxiety disorder. As part of her recovery, she has realized that her calling is to be a different sort of educator. She uses her artwork to initiate dialogue about mental illness and healing through expressive arts. She is now employed as a private school administrator to financially support her as she continues in her goals of personal health, art and advocacy.
